The Alaska-Pacific RFC Basin (aprfc) River Breakup Status Web Service displays breakup status of major rivers in Alaska. The data associated with this web service is the primary Alaska Ice Conditions for breakup status.
Update Frequency:The data updates twice a day but no specific time during the day.
This web service renders rivers by breakup status which includes the following river breakup status classification:
River Breakup Status Classification
Status | Description |
Open | The river status is open with seasonal ice melted and not ice flowing down river. |
Mostly Ice | The river status is covered by a continuous ice cover with small holes and leads but generally is covered from bank to bank with either in place ice or a heavy run of pan or chunk ice. |
Mostly Open | River status includes open water areas, but may reduce in size, some parts have frozen over with ice and could be covered by fresh snow. |
Some Open | River status includes unspecified amount of open water areas, but may reduce in size, some parts have frozen over with ice and could be covered by fresh snow. |
Unknown | No recent observations available to asses ice conditions. |
Flood Warning | Issued when a river level has exceeded, or is forecast to exceed, moderate or major flood stage. |
Flood Watch | Issued when there is the possibility of widespread general flooding over an area within the next 36 hours. |
